Health Screenings and Services
Listed below are a few of the many health services your school nurses and health aides can provide for your child.
The screenings listed below are not mandatory. Academic priorities and time needed by the school nurses and health aides for other responsibilities determine what can be done at each school.
If your school does not contact you about these health activities and you would like your child screened for any of the conditions described below, please call your school nurse or health aide.
Free Immunizations
The district will again schedule the Oklahoma Caring Van to visit schools and offer free immunizations to anyone under the age of 18. The Caring Vans provide all immunizations required by Oklahoma schools and child-care facilities. Current immunization requirements are available on this site.
Children’s Vision Screening
Prevent Blindness Oklahoma offers the Children’s Vision Screening Program to students in district schools. The goal of this organization is to further children’s education and health and to provide a brighter future for these children through early eye care. This program screens pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first and fourth grades, makes referrals, and offers financial assistance if needed.
Height and Weight Measurements
These measurements can be used for determining BMI (Body Mass Index). This index helps assess students for being underweight, overweight, or at risk of becoming overweight.
Blood Pressure
The average blood pressure levels are on the rise among American children and teenagers. This rise has been related to the concurrent increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity plaguing our nation.
