ACT scores of the Putnam City’s 2007 graduates are higher than the state averages in every area tested and higher than national averages in all but one area, ACT reports.
The composite score for 2007 Putnam City graduates was 21.7, compared to 20.7 for Oklahoma students and 21.2 for students across the nation. The subject area scores are:
• In English, the average score for 2007 Putnam City students was 21.9, compared to 20.5 for Oklahoma students and 20.7 for students nationwide.
• In math, district students averaged 20.6 in 2007, compared to 19.8 for Oklahoma students and 21.0 for students nationwide.
• In reading, 2007 district graduates’ average score was 22.3, compared to 21.3 for Oklahoma students and 21.5 for students nationwide.
• In science, 2007 district graduates earned an average score of 21.4, compared to 20.5 for Oklahoma students and 21.0 for students nationwide.
"Year after year, Putnam City students’ average scores on the ACT exceed state and national averages, a statistic that reflects well on our teachers, students and parents. We’re pleased but we don’t want to stand still. Improving students achievement means improving instruction, monitoring students’ academic progress and providing targeted help when students struggle in a subject," says Dr. Melani Mouse, the district’s assistant superintendent for Secondary Education.
