Putnam City High School drama teacher Donna Brown has been named the state’s 2006 Outstanding Speech Educator by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association. The award was given to her in mid-September at the state drama and debate teachers meeting.
Brown has been teaching for 36 years, 20 of which have been spent in Putnam City. The job is as fresh and fun as ever, she says.
"I love teaching drama and speech because I can see the growth in students as their work taps into their creative natures. It’s a very rewarding job that I have," Brown says.
Brown is a past winner of the Oklahoma Speech Coach of the Year, the Charlene Burton National Forensic League Educator Award and the H.B. Mitchell Outstanding High School Forensics Coach Award. In years past she has been honored with Putnam City’s Golden Apple Award and the Excellent Educator Award. She is a member of the Oklahoma Speech-Theatre-Communication Association, the National Forensic League, the Oklahoma Education Association and the National Education Association.
