Lake Park Elementary School 4th-grader Kayleigh Peters won the State Fair of Oklahoma Spelling Bee. Her prize included a certificate, a ribbon, a gold medallion and a $100 savings bond.
Putnam City North High School’s cheerleading squad took third place in state competition in late September.
Putnam City North High School senior Bryson Green is one of 46 students selected from a pool of more than 2,000 applicants nationwide to attend a special three-day program at the Fu Foundation School of Engineering at Columbia University in New York City. During his three-day stay, Green and the other participants will stay on-campus with current Columbia University engineering undergraduates, visit labs, meet with faculty, participate in activities related to engineering and work with Columbia mentors.
Putnam City High School student Do Chuong has been designated as a Distinguished Alumni of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council. The Congressional Youth Leadership Council offers educational leadership conferences for an elite group of outstanding young people from across the country and around the world.
Putnam City North High School’s Jazz Band performed at the Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Ceremony in mid-September. The band also played at a benefit concert to provide assistance to terminally ill people. These performances were in addition to the group’s obligations for marching band performance and practice.
