Each October, school districts submit forms to the State Department of Education listing the number of students at each school and in the district as a whole.
For years, Putnam City was the state’s third-largest district behind Oklahoma City and Tulsa. With extensive home construction in wide open areas of Moore and Edmond, those two school districts have grown. Putnam City, with relatively little open land on which to build houses, has maintained a relatively stable student population.
Currently, Putnam City is the state’s fourth-largest district, ranking behind Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Moore. Edmond has just a few students less than Putnam City, and will almost certainly overtake Putnam City later this year or next year.
