Student Achievements
Will Rogers Elementary School 5th-graders Jill Pullen and Anita Kurivilla were selected from more than 700 students to sing in the Children’s All-State Choir. They will perform in Tulsa at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Conference in January.
Entries from five Putnam City Academy students have been selected for the A+ Centennial Mural Project. On Friday, Nov. 17, the mural will be painted on the corner of N.W. 10th and Penn led by Bob Palmer, a nationally recognized muralist and professor at the University of Central Oklahoma. The project will include 100 students and 100 teachers to celebrate the 100th Centennial Celebration of Oklahoma. Putnam City Academy students chosen to take part are Kemisha Tyner, Cory Elliott, Elora Lopez, Ashley Bates and Cristina Rodriquez.
Hannah Kinsey and Brandon Baker from Western Oaks Middle School and Garrett Ennis, Cory Hall and Cameron Owens from Cooper Middle School were selected for the 2006/2007 Central Oklahoma Directors Association high school and middle school honor band.
Hefner PEAK students won honors at the Regional TIVY Math Tournament on Nov. 2 in Moore. Winners received trophies and cash prizes. Hefner’s 7th-grade team and 8th-grade team both won first place. The 6th-grade team took second place. Individual students honored were:
- Julie Jameson, first place in 6th grade
- Jonathan Ballew, second place in 6th grade
- Jeremiah Gress, third place in 6th grade
- Matt Shao, third place in 7th grade
- Veronica Senkowski, third place in 8th grade.
Four district students were named all-state by the Oklahoma Softball Coaches Association. From Putnam City North High School, catcher Kelsey Goochey and pitcher Kaylen Woosley made all-state, while second baseman Lauren Walk was an alternate. From Putnam City High School, shortstop Alicia Barkley made all-state.
Jessica Sims, a Putnam City West High School senior, will serve on the student board of the Educational Theatre Association. This organization promotes excellence in secondary school theatre programs.
Jennifer Johnson, a 2002 Putnam City North High School graduate, has been named a "Senior of Significance" at Oklahoma State University. Another OSU Senior of Signficance is Evan Worley, a 2002 Putnam City High School graduate and the son of Putnam City Center receptionist Kate Worley.
