Schools are normally in the business of nourishing the desire to learn. For the next couple of months, Putnam City Schools will also be feeding hungry stomachs. As a service to summer school students and the community, three Putnam City schools will be offering free breakfasts and lunches to children for portions of June and July.
On weekdays June 9 through June 30, breakfast and lunch will be served at Western Oaks Elementary School and Western Oaks Middle School, 7200 N.W. 23rd.
At Western Oaks Elementary School, breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
At Western Oaks Middle School, breakfast will be served from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
From July 5 through July 29, breakfast and lunch will be served at Apollo Elementary School, 1901 N. Peniel. Breakfast will be served from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:15 a.m. to noon.
Anyone between the ages of 1 and 18 is eligible to take part. Children who wish to take advantage of the free meals may simply show up at the school during the designated times. They do not need to be enrolled in the school, nor is there an application required to receive the free meals.
