Give Your Child A Spectacular Summer
If you want your child to have a spectacular summer, Putnam City Schools has a few ideas for you. The district is again hosting Summer Spectacular, an enrichment program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade, offering up classes from CSI investigations to ballet or hip hop to "way cool" science.
The classes will take place from June 20 through July 1 at Central Intermediate School, 5430 N.W. 40th.
Students may choose from a line-up of 27 classes. Depending on their class choice, students will learn about subjects such as animals, cheerleading, how to make a television commercial, karate, acting, cooking or dinosaurs. In one class, students will get the chance to take apart small appliances, computers and other devices without risking parental disapproval. In another class, students will learn manners and etiquette. Students in a science class will make slime and cause objects to explode, melt or disappear. Students will build rockets, handle snakes, and – in an annual highlight of Summer Spectacular – engage in a "Fear Factor" style eating contest.
"Summer Spectacular offers exciting, fun and meaningful activities. Students will find every class to be a high-interest, hands-on, creative experience," says Elise Kauffman, program director.
Students may enroll in as many as three classes a day or participate in a musical production class which meets for three hours each day.
The tuition-based program is open to Putnam City and non-Putnam City students. Class size is limited and early enrollment is encouraged.
Tuition costs are $40 for one class, $70 for two classes and $100 for three classes. Brochures with a complete listing of course descriptions and a registration form are available at the Putnam City Schools Administration building, 5401 N.W. 40, or at any Putnam City school.
