Staff Honors
Neil Hill, a social studies teacher at Putnam City West High School, has been accepted to two summer teaching institutes offered by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Hill will take part in Inventing America: Lowell and the Industrial Revolution and America's Industrial Revolution at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
Ann Saunders from Rollingwood Elementary School is the Heartland Rotary Club Teacher of the Month for May.
Ralph Downs Elementary School teachers Diann McDasson and Sherri Blankenship were selected to attend the summer teachers’ institute in Williamsburg.
Ralph Downs Elementary teacher Janie Hollas was selected as a Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year and receiving $1,000 for use in the classroom.
Two Central Elementary School teachers, Alisha Sackett and Kay Lindley, were awarded a Fund for Teachers (FFT) grant of $7,500 to visit Australia, experience its culture and observe classroom literacy teaching strategies. Sackett and Lindley are two of 108 Fund for Teachers fellows in Oklahoma in 2007.
Tom Pecore, social studies teacher and boys soccer coach at Putnam City North High School, has been named 2006 State Coach of The Year for Oklahoma High School Boys Division 1 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Adidas.
