Putnam City North Student Council Honored
For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community, Putnam City North High School has received a 2007 Gold Council of Excellence Award by the National Association of Student Councils. Putnam City North is one of only 133 schools nationwide to be named a Gold Council of Excellence.
To meet the requirements for the award, a student council must demonstrate that it meets a variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, a democratic election process, and membership in NASC, schools that qualify for the award demonstrate such things as leadership training for council members, teacher/staff appreciation activities, student recognition programs, school and community service projects, spirit activities, goal setting, financial planning, and active participation in their state and national student council associations.
"Receiving an NASC Council of Excellence Award indicates a dedication on the part of the local school to providing a strong, well-rounded student council program," Rocco Marano, director of NASC said. NASC applauds the work of the Gold Councils of Excellence and challenges them to continue their exemplary efforts to serve their schools as the elected representative of their student body."
Just applying for National Gold Chapter is a long and involved process. Each officer kept excellent records which enabled Putnam City North to provide an outstanding application.
"Upon receiving the NASC Gold Council of Excellence Award, the students felt a sense of accomplishment for their hard work, but at the same time they viewed the award as a challenge to improve Putnam City North High School’s student involvement, spirit and academic achievements," student council advisor Kathy Kutch said.
