Putnam City North Bands Shine in State Competition
Two Putnam City North High School bands excelled in state competition in mid- April.
On April 11, the Putnam City North Symphonic Band performed selections entitled the Rough Riders March by Karl King and Singapura Suite by Jan Van der Roost. In stage performance the band earned a superior composite rating and excellent composite rating in sight-reading competition. As a result, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association awarded the Putnam City North Symphonic Band the 2007 Oklahoma Outstanding Achievement Award.
On April 12, the Putnam City North Wind Ensemble performed selections entitled Fiesta-Paso Doble by Caneva/McAllister and Blue Shades by Frank Ticheli. In both stage performance and sight-reading competition, the band earned superior ratings. As a result, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association awarded the Putnam City North Wind Ensemble the 2007 Oklahoma Sweepstakes Award.
The Putnam City North Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Susan Clothier, and the Putnam City North Symphonic Band is under the direction of Joel Illgen. Additional staff support is provided by Robert Hullet and Travis Gunnells.
Putnam City North Band Students Superior in State Solo and Ensemble Competition
Fifty-four Putnam City North band students won superior ratings and 79 medals at state solo and ensemble contest on Thursday, April 19, at Oklahoma State University. Winning superior ratings were:
