2007 Outstanding Support Staff Named

At the April 16th meeting of the Putnam City Board of Education, five employees were honored by the Putnam City Public Schools Foundation for the vital roles they play in the mission and operation of district schools. Here are the honorees along with the write-ups that Foundation representatives read at the board meeting:

Sandy Adcox
Attendance Secretary, Overholser Elementary
Sandy Adcox creates a warm, positive atmosphere as attendance secretary in the office of Overholser Elementary. She is eager to take on additional jobs to help make her school great, from helping children cross the street in the absence of a crossing guard to singing a rousing rendition of the birthday song to students eager to tell her, "Miss Sandy, today is my birthday!" Principal Lee Ann Teasley says "Sandy is simply the best!"

Candy Milligan
Principal’s Secretary, Putnam City West High School
Candy Milligan has been employed with Putnam City schools for 16 years, the last two as principal’s secretary at PC West. A glutton for punishment, Candy worked as Buster Meeks’ secretary at Hefner Middle School from 1993 to 2004, then followed him to Putnam City West when he started as its principal in 2005. Buster says "she is a true supporter of every student." In showing her support, she attends almost every sporting event and other after school activities as well as volunteering many hours with the PTSA, making apple pies for their fundraiser and chaperoning at the dances. Candy is a very positive, fun person that exemplifies the true meaning of "Outstanding Support Staff".

Milton Ridley
Warehouse Driver, Buildings and Grounds
Milton Ridley is a very important behind-the-scenes employee for Putnam City. Not only does he deliver all of the supplies (including copy paper) to the various buildings of the district, he also picks up all of the obsolete items, ensuring a clutter-free environment for the students. Even though his job is physically demanding and sometimes has to be done last-minute, he always manages to greet the people he encounters with a warm smile and courteous manner. He exemplifies the reason for awarding our "outstanding support staff" by always going above and beyond the call of duty.

Deanne Rowe
Executive Director’s Secretary, Administration Building
Deanne Rowe’s willingness to provide constant and knowledgeable support ensures that she is a valued leader on the office team. She manages a $1 million budget that pays for all the textbooks for the district. The efficiency of the operations of the Curriculum and Instruction Office can be attributed to Deanne. Congratulations goes to Deanne for being recognized as one of this year’s Outstanding Support Staff!

Kim Smith
Counselor’s Secretary, Kenneth Cooper Middle School
Kim Smith’s enthusiasm and friendliness permeate the counselor’s office as well as the main office, creating a warm, welcome environment. She greets each staff member and visitor with a hearty, "Good mornin’!" at the start of each school day. She designs program brochures for special events, creates class spreadsheets, and even serves as a "mentor" to other registrars in the district. Kim also manages the Shoe Barn for the district, equipping nearly 250 needy students with new shoes. With much respect and appreciation from her peers and supervisor, Kim is recognized as one of this year’s Outstanding Support Staff.
