Yearbook to Go Into Hall of Fame

Panther Tracks, Putnam City North’s yearbook, will be inducted this spring into the National Scholastic Press Association’s (NSPA) Hall of Fame.

The publication will be honored in an awards ceremony during April’s NSPA conference in Seattle.

Making the hall of fame isn’t a one-year accomplishment, NSPA officials say. Panther Tracks has received NSPA’s highest rating 11 years in a row. Hall of Fame inductees must earn at least 10 such ratings in an 11-year stretch.

"Hall of Fame publications show consistent, year-to-year success," says Chad Rummel, NSPA contest coordinator. "This shows that the advisor, the program and the school hold journalism at the highest regard, and that students rise to the high level of expectation."

Yearbook adviser Betty Herman says that while the award is the highlight of her teaching career, she is especially pleased to see recognition for the hard work of Putnam City North students over the years.

"I'm happy for all the outstanding yearbook editors and staff members throughout the years who worked so diligently to make this honor possible. The efforts of yearbook staff members, who work many long hours to consistently create an outstanding record book for the school, often go unrecognized. This honor is a wonderful way to say 'job well done' to each of them," Herman says.
