Coronado Heights Elementary School had two winners in the 2005 OU Writing Project/ Writing Contest. Third-grader Isabella Rodriguez and fifth-grader Seth Cline won their divisions. There were a total of 387 entries in the contest, and judges selected 38 winners. The awards ceremony is March 30.
Coronado Heights Elementary’s Nicholas Largent won the fourth grade essay portion of the Lincoln Essay Contest held by BancFirst. In mid-February Nicholas was presented a check $100 for first prize in his category.
Kenneth Cooper Middle School’s 8th-grade boys’ basketball team went undefeated this year. In compiling their 22-0 record, Cooper won the Metro Middle School Conference and brought home first place trophies from the Edmond Sequoyah tournament and the Albert Bare Classic in Ada.
A 7th grade Hefner Quiz Bowl Team consisting of Anderson Britt, Aaron White, Tyler Hayes, Justin Lubbers, and Ethan Lax brought home a third-place trophy from the Cougar Challenge in Moore in late February. Another 7th grade Hefner Quiz Bowl Team, consisting of Tripp Walcher, J.P. Hollrah, Trey Witzel, David Leake, Kyle Covey and Alex Mutz, has qualified for the state quiz bowl tournament at the University of Oklahoma in April.
Charles Bullard, a 10th-grader at Putnam City North High School, has been named to the national high school honor choir by the American Choral Directors Association.
Putnam City North High School senior Laci Scott was named Miss Oklahoma USA in November. She will compete in the Miss USA pageant later this spring. Her Miss Oklahoma USA title brings college scholarship money with it, and she has already taped an episode of Fear Factor that will be aired before the pageant.
District students received awards and recognition in the 2005 Young Talent in Oklahoma competition. Putnam City High School student Cameron Bergeron had his portfolio ranked in the top 10 in the state of Oklahoma and will receive a cash award, while fellow student Laima Klhus had a painting juried into the exhibition. Putnam City North High School students Molly Clinkenbeard, Allison Sanders and Michael Burns also had work accepted for exhibition. The exhibition, "Best Student Art Work," will be on display at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa Feb. 26 though April 9.
