Putnam City Public Schools Foundation’s Celebration of Excellence is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, at the Express Event Center, 8512 Northwest Expressway.
The banquet will feature a Dr. Kenneth Cooper, the newest inductee into the Putnam City Foundation Wall of Fame. Cooper, a 1949 graduate of Putnam City High School, is one of the world’s foremost experts on health and fitness. Cooper has lectured in over 50 countries and authored 18 books, which have been translated in 41 languages and Braille and total more than 30 million copies sold. In Brazil, running is called coopering or doing the cooper, and the cooperteszt is the national fitness test in Hungary. (For more information about Cooper, visit http://www.cooperaerobics.com/Corporate/BioKenCooper.aspx)
Cooper will address banquet attendees on Obesity and Inactivity: A Childhood Epidemic.
In addition to Cooper’s presentation and induction into the Wall of Fame, banquet attendees will enjoy seeing the district’s five "Excellent Educators" honored. In addition, schools that have been awarded Foundation grants will be recognized.
Winners of the Ralph Downs Memorial Scholarship and the Roberta Jo Lowe Memorial Scholarship, given to faculty members pursuing additional education, will also be announced. The name of a Putnam City student who wishes to study health care in college will be announced as a recipient of the Carol Casey Memorial Scholarship.
District students will have several important roles at the banquet. Members of The Silver Strings, a string orchestra composed of musicians from all three district high schools, will entertain attendees. Helping present awards throughout the evening will be students from all three high schools.
This year’s banquet will also feature a return of last year’s popular silent auction. This year, the auction will include a plasma TV donated by Audio Dimensions, a fur coat donated by Koslow’s Fine Furs, original art and gift baskets.
District employees and PTA members may purchase tickets for $35 a person. Supporters of Putnam City Schools may purchase tickets for $100 a person. A table with eight seats may be purchased for $1,250. Proceeds from the banquet will be used to enhance and enrich educational opportunities for students in Putnam City schools.
Ticket forms for employees or patrons of the district may be accessed online.
Completed forms should be sent to Kristy Upton at the Putnam City Public Schools Foundation. Questions? Call Upton at 495-5200, ext. 1205.
