Wendy Ruiz from Overholser Elementary School was a finalist in BancFirst’s Lincoln Essay Contest and was honored at the State Capitol on Feb. 9th.
District elementary students shined in the recent Oklahoma State Student Media Festival. In the Grades 3-5 category, James L. Dennis Elementary School students won Best of Festival Award for CinderRocker, produced by Joshua Smith. The Award of Excellence in the same category went to Lake Park Elementary School for My Nature Metaphor, produced by Maggie Williams. Other Lake Park students recognized in the competition were Liseth Reyes and Angela Le, a superior rating in still photography; Byrce Corr, an excellence rating in i-Movie; and Dallas Osborn, a merit rating in still photography.
In mid-February the Putnam City North High School Philharmonic Orchestra received straight Superior ratings in both Concert Performance and Sight-reading at the OSSAA State Orchestra Contest, the highest honors available to an orchestra at the contest.
Salar Faiaza, a junior at Putnam City North High School, participated in the U.S. Open Taekwondo tournament in Dallas in mid-February. The U.S. Open is an international tournament with competitors from 49 countries represented. Faiaza won the gold medal in the 14-17 year old, black belt, middleweight sparring division.
