Musicals Take the Stage at All Three High Schools

If you like musicals, this is the weekend for you. Schedule it right and you can see three of the most popular musicals of all time on successive nights at district high schools.

On Thursday night, take in Fiddler on the Roof at Putnam City High School. On Friday night, enjoy Annie at Putnam City North High School. On Saturday night, cap your viewing with Beauty and the Beast at Putnam City West High School.

Yes, you can organize your outings on a different schedule. However you choose to do it, you'll hear scores of your favorite songs and support scores of the district's talented students.

Here's the information you'll need to arrange your weekend of musical magic:

Fiddling Around
Putnam City High School’s Drama and Vocal Music departments are presenting one of the most beloved stage musicals ever, Fiddler on the Roof, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4. The play will be in the school’s auditorium at 5300 N.W. 50th. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Fiddler tells the story of Tevye, a poor dairyman who fights to maintain the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in Czarist Russia. Fiddler contains a number of instantly recognizable songs, including If I Were a Rich Man, Tradition, To Life, Matchmaker and Sunrise, Sunset.

Leapin’ Lizards

Putnam City North High School’s Drama Department offers Annie, the classical musical about the spunky orphan who never gives up hope. With It’s the Hard-Knock Life, Easy Street and Tomorrow, Annie contains one of the most treasured scores in Broadway history.

Curtains will rise at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, and Friday, March 3, in Putnam City North’s auditorium. Tickets for students and children are $5 in advance. All tickets purchased at the door are $6.

Be Our Guest
Putnam City West Performing Arts Department presents the touching love story of Beauty and the Beast on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4. The musical features such memorable songs as Be Our Guest, Belle, and Beauty and the Beast.

The curtain rises in the Putnam City West auditorium at 7:30 p.m. for each performance. Tickets are $6 for students and $8 for adults.
