Teachers Honored for National Board Certification

Nine Putnam City teachers who recently earned National Board Certification were honored in a late January board meeting.

Teachers honored were Linda Cates, Northridge Elementary School; Jennie Croslin, Putnam City West High School; Charlotte Fieker, Lake Park Elementary School; Michelle Frank, Western Oaks Middle School; Janet Hulsey, Putnam City North High School; Michael Kraus, Western Oaks Middle School; Valerie Libby, Putnam City North High School, Donna McMullen, Lake Park Elementary School; and Connie Quisenberry, Coronado Heights Elementary School.

National Board Certification is a voluntary process established by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. It is achieved through a rigorous performance-based assessment that takes between one and three years to complete.

Through the assessment process, teachers document their subject matter knowledge, provide evidence that they know how to most effectively teach their subjects to students and demonstrate their ability to manage and measure student learning. Teachers who have become certified typically report that their teaching is more focused, reflective and confident, producing deeper student learning in classrooms.

Counting the newly certified teachers, 49 Putnam City teachers have earned national board certification.
