Student Achievements

Putnam City Academy student Dustin Shedrick has been honored with the the 2004 Weyerhaeuser Excellence in Recycling Award for an essay he wrote. The award brings $1,000 to the Academy for expansion of its recycling program. Dustin received his award from Lt. Governor Mary Fallin during a ceremony at the State Capitol on Thursday, Jan. 27.

The Putnam City West High School Academic Team is seeded fourth in the state tournament that takes place Saturday, Feb. 5, at Redlands Community College in El Reno.

The Hefner Middle School Knowledge Master team received second place in the state of Oklahoma and ranked in the top 30 percent nationally the Knowledge Master Open academic competition held in December. Congratulations go to Shantel Wagner, Sean Kim, Mitch Le, Cody Chism, Anderson Brett, Tyler Hayes, Mary Haiken, Aditi Jalla, Houston Gandy, Parker Banks, and Nathan Thomas for a job very well done.

The Hefner Middle School Quiz Bowl 7th-grade teams won first and third place in the district competition that was held on Jan. 20. The members of the first place team are Tripp Walcher, Anderson Brett, David Yardley, Kyle Covey, Tyler Hayes and Alex Mutz. The members of the third place team are Alana Flores, Gavin Wicker, David Leake, Trey Witzel and Kevin Jackson.

Putnam City North’s Liz Durbin has been selected to participate in Newsroom 101 at the Daily Oklahoman. Newsroom 101 is an award-winning program for journalism students in grades 9 through 12. Students from across the city produce stories and photos for an original Newsroom 101 publication. Newsroom 101 began in 1994 and has won the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers once and has been a finalist four times.
