Will Rogers Elementary School and Central Intermediate School were two of 21 Oklahoma schools that shared $1.6 million in statewide technology grants this year from the Oklahoma Educational Technology Trust (OETT).

Will Rogers Elementary School's objective for the grant is to provide educators with technology which supports authentic teaching and learning. Their grant purchase includes a multi-grade computer lab consisting of a teacher station, projection device, laser printer, digital cameras, and multi-media computers for classrooms connected to the Internet and equipped to run the reading software, Destination Reading. The wireless computers and digital cameras will allow teachers to enhance student learning with authentic learning opportunities. With wireless connectivity, students can conduct individual research projects utilizing the Internet while being involved in a variety of field experiences.

Central Intermediate is using the OETT grant funds to purchase multiple projection systems along with additional iBook and eMac computers for use with the Internet and PowerPoint. They also purchased Destination reading and math software to provide whole group supplemental instruction and individualized plans for students to reinforce their skills in these two critical areas of the curriculum.

The grants are the second in a three-year $5.25 million granting initiative by OETT focusing on improving student achievement, integrating technology, and leadership. Each grant recipient must demonstrate a strong commitment to developing a professional learning community and submit creative plans for flexible use of equipment to address specific educational goals.

Last year, OETT grants were received by Harvest Hills Elementary School and James L. Dennis Elementary School.
