Students Receive AP Scholar Designation
Forty-six students from Putnam City high schools earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams. Last year, 29 students from Putnam City high schools earned the designation.
About 17 percent of the more than 1 million high school students in almost 15,000 secondary schools worldwide who took AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit recognition as an AP Scholar.
Students took AP Exams in May 2004 after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools. Most of the nation's colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement or both based on successful performance on the AP Exams.
The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of year-long courses and exams.
AP Scholar with Distinction
Earning "AP Scholar with Distinction" recognition, granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams on full year courses, were six students from Putnam City North High School and three students from Putnam City West High School.
Putnam City North students earning AP Scholar with Distinction recognition were Grant Archie*, Alisa Ballard, Alexander Fuller*, Phillip Melton*, Steven Wildening* and Zi Ying Zhand.
Putnam City West students earning AP Scholar with Distinction status were Nicholas LeCompte, Jonathan Sharp and Dustin Gabus*.
AP Scholar with Honor
Seven students from Putnam City North and four students from Putnam City West earned "AP Scholar with Honor" status. AP Scholar with Honor status is granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams on full year courses.
Putnam City North students earning AP Scholar with Honor status were Jamie Hill*, Timothy Hsu*, Jessica Hulsey*, Jennifer Redden*, Loren Stearman*, Michael Wood* and Kathleen Young*.
Putnam City West students earning AP Scholar with Honor recognition were Zach Paden, Kelly Claunch*, J.K. Feisal* and Clark Townsend*.
AP Scholar
One Putnam City High School student, 17 Putnam City North students and eight Putnam City West students earned recognition as an AP Scholar. The recognition is granted to students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams on full-year courses.
From Putnam City High School, Cason Cabebe earned AP Scholar status.
Earning AP Scholar status from Putnam City North were Matthew Anderson*, Allison Burns*, Stephen Clayton, Hoestevha Heap-of-Birds, James Jillson, Jared Kuntz, Lauren McGough, Andrew Moore*, Brian Rayner*, Lance Reid, Lacie Savage, Steven Senkowski, Jamie Sieber, Andrew Smith, Sarah Steece*, Nathaniel Thomson and Beth White*.
From Putnam City West, earning AP Scholar status were Micah Morgan, Rob Smith, Derek Steffen, Sarah Swinney, Megan Aldridge*, Jon-Paul LeCompte*, Shayna Pond* and Lizz Stransner*.
District students took AP classes in 19 subject areas last year, ranging from calculus to English literature to U.S. or European history.
