Choir Honors
Choir members from several district schools have earned honors recently.
Charles Bullard, a junior at Putnam City North High School, has been named to the Southwest American Choral Directors Association Honor Choir for students in grades 11 and 12. Katie Eissenstat, a freshman at Putnam City North, has been named to the Southwest American Choral Directors Association Honor Choir for students in grade 8 through 10.
Two hundred students from the southwest region were chosen for each choir. About 1,500 students tried out for each choir by submitting audition tapes or CDs.
The two Putnam City North students will join other honors choir members in St. Louis in March to rehearse with world-renowned conductors and perform before hundreds of choral directors and parents from a 12-state area.
Putnam City High School has students in three All-State choirs this year. Christina Sazama, Tyler Newcomb and John McCall are in the All-OMEA mixed choir. Sazama was also one of 26 chosen, out of approximately 550 who auditioned, for the All-State Jazz Choir. Nanette Sylvan is in the All-OCDA women’s choir.
Katherine Thomas, a Western Oaks Middle School student, was chosen for the Junior High All-State Honor Choir. She was the only Putnam City middle school student to receive this honor.
