Student Achievements
Putnam City High School
Gabrielle Martin of Putnam City North High School won the Award of Excellence of Photography Senior in the 2006 State PTA Reflections competition. Winning awards of merit were Calvin Boling, Dennis Elementary, Dance Choreography Intermediate; Jamie Brown, Harvest Hills Elementary, and Angela Nwankwo, Dennis Elementary, Literature Intermediate; Matthew Hester, Cooper Middle School, Literature Middle/Junior; Michelle Borror, Putnam City High School, Literature Senior; Pierce Rosengren, Wiley Post Elementary, Musical Composition Intermediate; and Zachary Davis, Northridge Elementary Photography Intermediate.
Putnam City High School student Brandon Byrd, one of the school’s valedictorians, was be honored as a scholar/athlete by the National Football League. He was one of 11 seniors in the state being honored by this group.
Putnam City High student Maria Perez has been selected as the McDonald Latino Youth Leader of the Month and both Maria and the school will be featured on Cox Cable channels.
Putnam City High School students Travis Penrose, Wesley Barnaby and Zachary DeMarco were recognized for third place in System Control Technology at the annual Oklahoma Technology Student Association (TSA) Leadership and Career Development Conference. Penrose was also recognized for third place in Computer Aided Design 3D. The 2007 TSA State Conference was held in early April at the fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.
The Putnam City High School debate team of Chris Cornman and Taylor Foster won district competition in late March, qualifying them to compete in the national tournament this summer. The team is only the second cross-question debate team from Putnam City High to qualify for the national tournament since the 1970s. The team is working to raise approximately $1,500 in order to attend the national tournament.
Putnam City High drama and debate students fared well in regional competition in early March. The Putnam City High team placed third out of 16 6A schools competing.

- Zak Miller placed fourth in prose
- Megan McConnell was the regional champion in original oratory
- Nana Asante with Lindsay Pittman took third place and qualified for state dramatic interpretation
- Jeff Bragg and Chaz Wood qualified for state in humorous duet
- Katie Carter and Brittany Wanner qualified in dramatic duet
- Chaz Wood was the regional champion in monologue acting
- Chris Cornman and Taylor Foster placed third in cross-question debate
Putnam City North High School
At the district vocal solo and ensemble contest on March 8 – 9, Putnam City North High School students turned in stellar performances. Earning superior ratings and advancing to state competition were:

Honors for the Putnam City North Choir did not end at regionals. On April 4, all three advanced choirs -- the Advanced Women's Choir, the Advanced Mixed Choir and the Advanced Men's Choir -- earned superior scores (1s) at state competition and were recognized with the "Outstanding Achievement Award."
Putnam City West High School
Andrea Bryan of Putnam City West High School is one of about 800 talented African American high school seniors across the nation and six in Oklahoma to be named a National Achievement Program Scholarship winner. Bryan will receive a $2,500 scholarship that may be used for undergraduate study at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
Putnam City West High School student Damon Korrect has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.
Other Schools
Hefner Middle School is celebrating the success of their two 7th-grade teams at the Regional Quiz Bowl Tournament at Moore West Jr. High in early March. The team of Lucas Adams, Andrew Maples, Josh Burgess, Connor Deimund, Cecil Wilber, Nicole Davis, Toni Massey and Steven Harsha finished second and will take part in state competition in mid-April. The team of Jared Deimund, Aaron Wilder, Sean Burton, Cierra Keith, Nathan Miles, Jillian Schlecht, Courtney King and Nathan Young finished in fourth place.
Mayfield Middle School and Putnam City High School students will represent Oklahoma at the National Science Olympiad Tournament in Wichita in mid-May. Teams and teachers are busy raising funds to cover trip costs.
Students from Ralph Downs Elementary School placed first in state for the second year in a row in the elementary school category of the Oklahoma Centennial Collage Competition. The Oklahoma Centennial Collage Project is an eight-year event designed to create a unique collection of historic state art to help celebrate Oklahoma's Centennial Year of statehood in 2007. The school will receive $1,000.
