Staff Honors

Putnam City West High School teacher Rachel Richardson has been selected as part of a group going to Ghana, Africa, this summer to train special education teachers. The nation of Ghana has recently changed their laws regarding teaching special needs children.

Bob Melton, the district’s science coordinator, received the Last Frontier Council’s Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. The award recognizes outstanding service to youth.

A $30,000 grant for new technology has been awarded to Wiley Post Elementary School from the Harris Foundation. The technology grant will provide 15 technology stations for teachers, with each station including a laptop computer and projector to display lessons to the classroom. The grant was submitted by Wiley Post’s Library Media Specialist, Karie Carpenter.

Lake Park Elementary School teacher Kelli Chastain will be awarded the 2007 Excellence in Education – Teachers Teaching Teachers Award at the Oklahoma Education Association Awards Banquet.

Neil Hill of Putnam City West was chosen Applebee's March Teacher of the Month for March.

Karen Harris-Kobs of Harvest Hills Elementary School has been selected as the Heartland Rotary Club Teacher of the Month for April.
