Outstanding Support Staff Named
The Putnam City Public Schools Foundation in early April announced winners of the 2006 Outstanding Support Staff awards. Below are the writeups on each winner as read at the meeting of the Putnam City Board of Education in which the awards were announced.
Shemeca Biglow
Day Custodian, D.D. Kirkland Elementary School
What do you call a day custodian, mother of four, faculty team member, PTA member and someone who still finds the time to volunteer? Kirkland Elementary School staff call her "the wonder woman of Putnam City," a.k.a. Shemeca Biglow, day custodian at D.D. Kirkland Elementary School. Shemeca demonstrates an admirable work ethic and terrific attitude. She loves working and interacting with children, as well as helping the adults by being a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen.
Allison Brewer
Special Education Paraprofessional, Western Oaks Middle School
Bubbly, enthusiastic, thoughtful, and simply outstanding are all words used to describe Allison Brewer, paraprofessional at Western Oaks Middle School. Her contagious smile encourages those around her and her one-on-one interaction with a quadriplegic student is enough to inspire anyone. Allison steps outside of her main job and is always available to lend a hand to other staff members and jumps right in whenever there is an event or competition with students.
Denise Ruth
Media Assistant, Western Oaks Elementary School
Whether you need help in the library or help with setting up for a meeting, Western Oaks Elementary School Media Assistant Denise Ruth is first on the scene. A day in her work life will find her helping teachers and students in the library, sharing lunch duty with fourth-grade students and ironing out any computer problems teachers may be facing. Denise is conscientious, efficient, dependable and always positive. She keeps the building running smoothly and effectively, and is considered a great asset to her school.
Barbara Skinner
Secretary, Putnam City Academy
First impressions count, and the Putnam City Academy is proud of the first impression students, visitors and guests receive from Barbara Skinner, attendance secretary. There is no mistaking her bright eyes and friendly smile that encourage all who pass her way. Barbara wears many hats, including receptionist, registrar and school nurse. Words used to describe her include, patient, kind, efficient, dependable, likeable and positive.
Venita Springfield
Media Assistant, Lake Park Elementary
Exemplifying professionalism and commitment to education is what Venita Springfield does on a daily basis as library media aide at Lake Park Elementary School. From organizing reading incentives to helping with copiers and the computer lab, she is always in the know. Venita’s knowledge and willingness to assist makes her an asset to her school. She is the one everyone turns to when needing an extra hand with technology or library needs.
