For more than 90 years, Putnam City Schools has been one of the premier school districts in the state, bringing together families in northwest Oklahoma City to provide a high-quality education for students in preschool through high school.

General Excellence

  • For 18 consecutive years, Putnam City Schools has been selected as one of the top school systems in the nation as a recipient of the SchoolMatch "What Parents Want Award"
  • 71 teachers in the district have National Board Certification
  • 26.2 percent of district teachers have advanced degrees (masters or doctorates)
  • Five of our schools have been named Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education: James L. Dennis Elementary (1985-86); Putnam City North High School (1988-89); Will Rogers Elementary (1998-99); Wiley Post Elementary (1989-90); Coronado Heights Elementary (1996-97).
  • We've been recognized by Money magazine as one of the nation’s "100 Top Schools in Towns You Can Afford."
  • In 2010 The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced that Putnam City Schools received the 22nd annual Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network and National School Boards Association Award. The district was singled out from nominees around the country for its outstanding support of high-quality arts education.


Academics

  • 110 Academic All-Staters in 25 years, the thirdhighest of any school district in Oklahoma
  • Seventy-one district students were named Oklahoma Academic Scholars by the Oklahoma State Department of Education in 2010. Putnam City, the state’s fifth-largest school district, has the third-highest number of Oklahoma Academic Scholars all-time.
  • 211 National Merit Finalists in the last 24 years, one of the highest totals in Oklahoma
  • More than $5.7 million in scholarships accepted by our 2010 graduates
  • ACT composite score above the state and national average


Technology

  • A fiber-optic districtwide computer network that links computers in every classroom.
  • Wireless access to district resources and the Internet in all schools
  • A computer in each classroom offering Internet access, e-mail, and attendance and gradebook software
  • A parent portal to encourage communication between parents and teachers 
  • A ratio of one computer for every three students
  • Extensive training of teacher for effective use of technology in the classroom through the district's Advanced Integration Technology training program
  • Leading-edge application of technology, including wireless laptop labs, electronic teaching boards and project-based technology integration
  • An intranet employees may use at work or at home to access online learning communities, district e-mail, hard drive files and many other resources and tools
  • Districtwide access to online instructional resources such as WorldBookOnline, Discovery Education Streaming, Omnimusic and others
  • Web-based tools to improve student achievement by measuring student performance against standards through the school year


Community Support

  • More than 6,300 PTA members across the district, about 8 percent of all PTA members in Oklahoma
  • Strong parent and community support -- 4.1 volunteer hours per student, compared to a state average of 2.5
  • Our community has a history of supporting school bond elections, allowing us to have some of the finest school facilities in the area
  • Partnerships with local businesses through our Partners In Education program
