 Scientists at Work Hundreds of students at three district middle schools took part on Sept. 9th in Science Olympiad, a day of scientific exploration and competition. Students took part in several challenging and fun events to help them learn about science, including sending rubber-band powered cars down a path after estimating how long it would take the car to traverse the path. The active approach to science helps teach concepts in the physical sciences and also helps students learn science skills and applications.

Putnam City Advanced Placement Students Earn College Credit, Save Money Students at Putnam City’s three high schools last year earned more than 2,000 hours of college credit and saved more than half a million dollars in college costs by taking advanced placement courses and passing tests.

 Coming Back to do a Good Deed Troy McDaniel, Oklahoma City district director for Cricket Communications and an alum of James L. Dennis Elementary School, donated 200 backpacks for the school¹s use throughout the year. Principal Vivian Grigsby accepted the backpacks on behalf of the school.
 Churches Supply Schools Oklahoma City First Church of the Nazarene donated more than $2,800 worth of school supplies this year to Coronado Heights Elementary and three other district schools. Ellen McNeill, media assistant at Coronado Heights, began the effort five years ago through her church under the direction of Senior Pastor Jon Middendorf. McNeill and Middendorf are pictured above. Tulakes Elementary received supplies and assistance from Grace United Methodist, Cathedral of Praise Outreach Center and LifeChurch.
 Feed the Children Donates Supplies Capps Middle School was one of 13 Putnam City schools to receive boxes of school supplies from Feed The Children, the international hunger relief organization based in Oklahoma City. Parent/Student Community Liaison Tonya Allen (left) and 8th-grade counselor Dorothy Varner picked up the supplies at the organization’s warehouse. Feed The Children provided free backpacks, crayons, markers, paints, manipulatives and other classroom supplies to Title 1 schools in Putnam City and other area districts before classes started.
