Putnam City High Student Named All-American by Speech and Debate Honor Society
The West Oklahoma District of the National Forensic League (NFL) has named Niekia Franklin from Putnam City High School as an NFL Academic All-American for 2008.
This prestigious award is reserved for students who meet rigorous criteria including:
1) NFL Degree of Superior Distinction on record (750 points)
2) GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
3) ACT score of 27 or higher or SAT score of 2000 or higher
4) Completed at least 5 semesters of high school
5) Character reference from both the student's coach and principal
The NFL is the largest and oldest speech and debate honor society. Prominent NFL alumni include President Lyndon Johnson, Vice President Hubert Humphrey, Senators Richard Lugar and William Frist, media visionary Ted Turner, Emmy award winners Kelsey Grammar and Shelly Long, television host Oprah Winfrey, news anchor Jane Pauley, CSPAN founder Brian Lamb, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, and University of Oklahoma President David Boren.
Earlier this year Franklin was named one of about 1,600 talented African American high school seniors across the nation and seven in Oklahoma to be named a National Achievement Program semifinalist.
