Student Achievements
The Putnam City High School Debate Team competed in the Rotary Club Regional 4-Way Test Speech Contest in late January and swept the competition. Sean Sales won first place, a $250 cash prize, and the right to attend the district contest for a chance to compete for up to $1,000. Taylor Foster won second place and a $150 cash prize. Niki Franklin placed third and won $100.
Marshall Golowenski of Putnam City High School has been awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the National Youth Leadership Conference sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council (CYLC). The CYLC offers educational leadership conferences for a group of outstanding young people from across the country and around the world.
Angelo Trigoso of Putnam City High School has been named McDonald's Latino Youth Leader of the Month.
Congratulations to Putnam City West student and swimmer Kaylee Steffen for winning the state championship in the 100-meter backstroke and to Putnam City North student Amy Kilby for repeating as state champion in diving.
Congratulations to the Putnam City North boys' swim team and girls' swim team, as well as the Putnam City West boys’ swim team, for being awarded the Academic Achievement Award by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association. The award recognizes a team grade point average of 3.25 or above.
Three Putnam City North High School students placed in the recent the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Regional Students Taking Action Recognition competition. Greg Brown won first place in Job Interview – Job Readiness competition. Tabor Bien received second in Interpersonal Skills competition. Allie White and Sarah Whittington received first in their National Programs in Action competition. First-place winners advance to the state STAR Events held in Stillwater in March.
Several Putnam City band students auditioned for the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OMEA) All State Band in early December. The prerequisite to audition was passing a preliminary round which took place at the regional level in November. Putnam City was represented in the All-State Band by Taewook Song, Stacey Durham, and Zach Keith of Putnam City High School and David Highfield, Brendan Hill, David Humphreys and Kayle Patatanian of Putnam City North High School. These students auditioned against students from every school in Oklahoma, regardless of school classifications. As members of the All-State Band, these students traveled to Tulsa in January to rehearse and perform with nationally renowned conductors at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
Katy Kephart of Putnam City High School and Katie Eissenstat of Putnam City North High School made the Oklahoma Choir Director’s Association (OCDA) All-State Women's Choir.
Rebecca Henry and Rachel Ratliff of Putnam City North were named to the OCDA Junior High All-State Choir.
Putnam City North’s Madison Duncan, Rebecca Henry, Erin McFall, Kim Nicoll, Rachel Ratliff and Josh Smith were selected to the Central Oklahoma Choir Director’s Association All-Region Choir.
Karlie Clifford, Whitney Richardson, Jessie Riess and Tyler Wood of Putnam City North were named to the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Mixed All-State Choir. Robert Vaughn was selected as an alternate.
Toby Lambkin, a junior at Putnam City High School, was selected as KOKH Fox 25 Scholar Athlete of the Week in November 2007.
Putnam City North’s DECA chapter was selected as the state’s Chapter of the Month in October 2007.
