Mayor Cornett visits Coronado Heights

   Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett returned to his old grade school, Coronado Heights Elementary School, in late September. Students prepared for his visit by studying government and then quizzed him about his career and about improvements needed in Oklahoma City.


Authors to Teach Students the Write Stuff   Two award-winning children's authors will visit with students from 14 district elementary schools in early November.

Give a Golden Apple   Nothing says "thanks for all you do" like a Golden Apple Award. The awards are presented twice a year to employees and volunteers who promote excellence in education. The deadline is approaching for nominations for the fall Golden Apple Awards.

Nominations Sought for 2005 Outstanding Educators, Academic All-State Scholars   The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, a nonprofit organization that recognizes and encourages academic excellence in Oklahoma’s public schools, is seeking nominations for its 2005 Academic Awards Program.

Foundation Gets Into the Swing of Things   More than 35 golfers will tee off in the annual golf tournament sponsored by the Putnam City Public Schools Foundation. Their goal: Helping Putnam City teachers and students.

Sounds of Music   More than 2,400 student musicians playing in 25 of the state’s finest high school marching bands will compete in the Fourth Annual Putnam City Marching Classic on Saturday, Oct. 9.

   Susan Baker (left), a science teacher at Putnam City North High School, was honored on Sept. 28 as KMGL’s Magic Teacher of the Week. 104.1 Magic Man Jeff Roberts visited the school to surprise Baker with the announcement. The student who nominated Baker for the award looks on.

2004 National Merit Semifinalists

National Merit Semifinalists Named   Daniela Mello de Almeida (middle) of Putnam City High School and Steven Senkowski (right) and Andrew Smith of Putnam City North High School have been named as National Merit Semifinalists. National Merit Semifinalists are the highest scorers on the Preliminary SAT Qualifying Test in each of the 50 states and represent less than 1 percent of each state’s high school seniors.

PC West players visit elementary classrooms

Players Succeed Off the Field, Too
   A Putnam City West football player worked with Dr. Beverly Martin and students in an Overholser Elementary music class recently. More than 40 players are visiting elementary classrooms in five Putnam City schools this year. The visits promote literacy, build school and district spirit, encourage healthy lifestyles and provide additional role models for elementary students.



OMRF  publication Findings
Cancer Drive Featured in Publication   The summer issue of Findings, the news magazine of the Oklahoma Medical Research, featured an article on the Putnam City Schools cancer drive. There are copies of the magazine at each school. If you didn’t happen to see one, you can also read the article online.
