New National Board Ceritified Teachers Announced

The National Board for Professional Teachers Standards has announced that five Putnam City teachers earned National Board Certification this year, one of the top distinctions for quality in teaching that a teacher may earn.

Teachers earning certification were:
• Nathan Brubaker, Putnam City High School
• Laura Hardee, Northridge Elementary School
• Michelle Koehn, Putnam City High School
• Jonel Levy, Windsor Hills Elementary School
• Stephanie Moring, Putnam City North High School

National Board Certification is a voluntary process established by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. It is achieved through a rigorous performance-based assessment that takes between one and three years to complete.

Through the assessment process, teachers document their subject matter knowledge, provide evidence that they know how to most effectively teach their subjects to students and demonstrate their ability to manage and measure student learning. Teachers who have become certified typically report that their teaching is more focused, reflective and confident, producing deeper student learning in classrooms.

Records maintained by the National Board for Professional Teachers Standards show 112 Putnam City teachers with national board certification. However, the records do not reflect for Putnam City or any other district the teachers who have retired, moved out of state, left the profession or changed districts. The current number of national board certified teachers in Putnam City is 69.
