Putnam City North Student Chosen for U.S. Senate Youth ProgramJeremy Allen, a senior at Putnam City North High School, has been selected as one of two Oklahoma delegates to participate in the U.S. Senate Youth Program for 2012.
Allen will represent Oklahoma at the program’s 50th Anniversary Washington Week from March 3-10. The week is designed to provide a foundation of knowledge and encouragement for those considering a future of public service on the local, state or national level. Allen and other delegates will meet with Senate leaders, the President, cabinet officers, a Justice of the Supreme Court, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and other government leaders and policy-makers.
By being selected, Allen will receive a $5,000 undergraduate college scholarship in addition to the all-expenses-paid trip to the nation's capital.
At Putnam City North, Allen is active in National Honor Society, debate, choir, Key Club and the Young Democrats Club. He plans to study environmental studies, economics or political science in college.
The U.S. Senate Youth Program is sponsored by the Senate and is fully funded by The Hearst Foundations. No government funds are used for the program. The selection of delegates is administered in each state by the state's chief school officer in cooperation with high school principals.
