Anthony Hernandez Named Soccer All-American

Putnam City North High School junior Anthony Hernandez, a defender on the Panthers’ boys’ soccer team, has been named by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Adidas as Oklahoma’s Player of the Year and a member of the 2011 Boys High School All-America Team.

Hernandez has been a member of Putnam City North’s varsity soccer team since he was a freshman. He was the team’s “Newcomer of the Year” in 2010 and in 2011 played at a level high enough to be chosen as an All-Conference and All-District player.

He has been a member of Oklahoma’s Olympic Development soccer team since age 12, and for two out of the last three years has been a member of the Region III Olympic Development Program team, composed of the best players from the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Putnam City North Soccer Coach Tom Pecore says Hernandez is deserving of recognition that comes his way.

“Anthony is one of those rare players that come along in a coach’s career. He is graceful with the ball, tenacious as defender and passionate as a player. He is an exceptional student and represents the best in what we want in our student athletes. He is the complete package,” says Pecore.

Hernandez joins former Putnam City North soccer standouts Zach Brinlee and Brian Byars as All-Americans from the school. The Putnam City North boys’ soccer program has produced more All-Americans than any other high school in Oklahoma.
