District Elementary Students to Dance in Finals

Students from three Putnam City schools will take part in the eight-team Life Change Ballroom Dance Competition Finals from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Rose State Performing Arts Theatre, 6000 Trosper Road in Midwest City.

Fifth-graders from Will Rogers Elementary, James L. Dennis Elementary and Rollingwood Elementary will compete in different styles of ballroom dance to earn the title of “Life Change Ballroom Champions.

The value of ballroom dance for students has been noticed by teachers.

"I am so very proud of the persistence and hard work of these students. They have proven to themselves and others that great things can be achieved through hard work,” says Cindy Brackenbury, a 5th-grade teacher and the dance sponsor at James L. Dennis Elementary.

A mother of one of the young dancers has also appreciates the benefits of dance instruction.

“Ballroom dancing has been such a positive experience. The dance instructors challenged my child to be more. His dedicated teachers encouraged him to do more. I am amazed at what they accomplished together and am so proud,” says Jennifer Vardaro, the school’s PTA president.
