Just more than two months after teachers of the year were named at every school in Putnam City, five teachers now remain in the running for district teacher of the year. The finalists are:

• Shari Gateley, Putnam City West High School
• Katie Kinder, Kenneth Cooper Middle School
• Michelle Koehn, Putnam City High School
• Lauren McDown, Tulakes Elementary School
• Jessica Towne, Hilldale Elementary School

The five finalists, along with other teachers of the year, will be honored at the district’s annual Teacher of the Year program beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at Newchurch, 9201 N. Rockwell. The district’s teacher of the year will be announced during the program. The event, sponsored by the Putnam City Public Schools Foundation, is free and open to the public.

The five finalists will be interviewed by a panel of local business leaders in a process to determine the district teacher of the year. Three out of the last four years Putnam City has had its teacher of the year named one of 12 finalists for state teacher of the year.
