Three Schools Receive Grants

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation announced in late February that three Putnam City Schools have received grants.

James L. Capps Middle School received a grant from The Margaret Annis Boys Trust for $7,000 beautify its campus with new plants. The Margaret Annis Boys Trust is a fund established by the estate of a lifelong Oklahoma resident who had a deep appreciation for Oklahoma native trees and flowers. Grants from this fund support beautification projects for public parks, medians and other public lands in Oklahoma County.

Central Elementary School received a $2,700 "Get Moving OKC" grant to purchase pedometers, rewards, medals and incentives to encourage participation in the school’s walking program. The school will also use grant funds to purchase nutrition education materials to enhance current nutrition education programs.

Western Oaks Elementary School also received a Get Moving OKC grant. The school received $6,700 to purchase equipment to create a 13-station fitness station trail to enhance the school's existing 100-mile club walking program.

Get Moving OKC seeks to raise awareness in the community of the benefits of exercise to good health and the integration of simple physical activity, such as walking, into the daily routines of children and adults in central Oklahoma.
