Putnam City Schools has a proud academic tradition. For nearly two decades, Putnam City Schools was selected as one of the top school systems in the nation as a recipient of the SchoolMatch "What Parents Want Award." SchoolMatch maintains information on every public school system in the country to help employees transferred by their companies find schools that match the needs of their children. Criteria used in selecting winners of the "What Parents Want Award" include curriculum, academic test scores, recognition for excellence, library/media services, class size and above average expenditures on pupil instruction.

Year after year, our students are high achievers. Although Putnam City is the fifth-largest district in the state, it has, historically speaking, the third-highest number of Oklahoma Academic Scholars, an honor accorded to students by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. The district also has the third-highest number of Academic All-Staters in the state, a recognition bestowed by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. Selection of scholars for this honor has been described by University of Oklahoma President and Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Chairman and Founder David L. Boren as “Oklahoma’s most rigorous academic competition.”

For families with children in the district or about to be in the district, what's more important than tradition is what's going on right now. As has always been the case, Putnam City Schools strives to ensure that all students receive a strong academic foundation.
